An Teanga Beo

This channel; ‘An Teanga Beo’ (‘The Alive Language’), is broadcast entirely in Ireland’s native tongue- Irish. Irish is one of the oldest languagues in the world and according to Bunreacht na hEireann, the Irish Constitution, it is the official lanuguage of the Republic of Ireland. 90 years after the Easter Rising of 1916, this programme looks back at the events that were to change Irish history forever. It also pays a special tribute to the women of 1916 whose participation in the Rising is often forgotten.

Tionchar Teanga; language influences, is a documentary charting the Irish language over the Centuries. It looks at the effects the Famine in 1847 had on Irish, and also the influences the Normans, the Vikings and the English had on the language. The programme also looks at the Irish language in modern Ireland.
